Draw-a-Person

What:

Draw-a-person is an assessment tool designed to provide a projective profile of a child’s personality and emotional behavior attributes.

Who:

This assessment tool can be used for all ages.

Why:

This assessment can be used to provide insight into possible emotional and behavior issues.

When:

The Draw-a-person assessment can be used any time, but preferably for initial screening purposes.

How:

  1. Provide student with several pieces of unlined white paper and a sharpened #2 pencil.

  2. Ask the student to draw a person. Allow anything, do not assist, and if the student completes a stick person, ask the student to draw a full figured person (keep both drawings).

  3. Ask the student to take another sheet of paper and draw a person of the opposite sex. For young students, ask, "who is this in your drawing?" Then ,ask them to draw the opposite (if Mom then ask then to draw a man).
