Slosson IQ
What:
A cognitive aptitude assessment designed to evaluate an individual's mental ability.
Who:
Used for persons with a chronological age of 27-216 months (approximately 2-18 years) and/or mental age from 31-271 months (2.5-23 years).
Why:
Used to provide initial screening to estimate the IQ (intellectual quotient) of an individual.
When:
Can be used as needed.
How:
-
Have materials ready (test manual with questions, student scoring sheet, extra sheet for student use as needed, norm tables).
-
Calculate student's chronological age, CA.
-
Begin testing one year below or one year above, based on knowledge of the student.
-
Ask questions and record correct or incorrect response on scoring sheet (have extra sheet available as needed for specific items).
-
Stop testing when the student has missed 10 items in a row.
-
Score the assessment:
-
Find the basal age (BA) - point just below the first error after 10 successful responses (last question that marks 10 correct in a row - go down one level).
-
Find the mental age (MS) - count the number of correct responses passed after the basal age - add this credit to basal age (see chart for credit calculations).
-
Find the IQ by matching the CA and MA in the norms tables.
