Launching of Sputnik

The launching of Sputnik changed everything in America. This began the Race to Space in society and in the schools. Questions that led this movement asked if the future scientist was properly prepared in education to be able to put men into space and also get them back home. Did the educational system in America have the support in the curriculum to stay ahead of other countries? During this time, reading, math, and science instruction began earlier and became more rigorous.
