Psychology and Pedagogy
1908
Edmund Burke Huey wrote the Psychology and Pedagogy of Reading. This is considered the first professional book written for teachers. Huey observed and recorded eye movements during reading. He discovered that our eyes, rather than running smoothly over a text, pause and fixate throughout the text. The Psychology and Pedagogy of Reading also offers information about the history of reading and writing and the developmental stages a child goes though in learning these skills. The information presented in the Psychology and Pedagogy of Reading is still relevant.
